George Gretton held the Lord President Reid chair of law at Edinburgh University from 1994 to his retirement in 2016, when he became an Emeritus Professor. Between 2006 and 2011 he was a member of the Scottish Law Commission. He has broad interests in law, including property, trusts and succession. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh and is a Writer to the Signet.
