"Punctuations from History" is Ian Gouge’s latest collection of poems, a volume that in various ways explores our place in, and relation to, history. "Punctuations from History" is Ian Gouge’s latest collection of poems, a volume that in various ways explores our place in, and relation to, history. Whilst there are similarities in theme to his collection "Human Archaeology" (which debuted at the 2017 Ripon Poetry Festival), the threads tying these pieces together are looser, more fluid. In an unusual departure, "Punctuations from History" contains brief ‘context commentaries’ that provide the reader with a foothold into the individual poems: "an attempt to offer up a literary trowel to allow the reader to get below the surface of the poem more readily". Autorenporträt
Perhaps first and foremost I consider myself a writer of fiction. I'm fascinated by how people relate to their histories, the decisions they take, the relationships they have. Our past informs our present and steers our future - whether we like it or not.Of course these days it can be hard to be 'just one thing', especially if your experience covers multiple writing-related genres and interests. And therefore - in order to be true to myself and honest with you - I also need to confess that I am a sometime poet, creative writing mentor, and Indie Publisher. You can find me at iangouge.substack.com
