In the heart of the South, even the smallest town can hold the biggest secrets. When journalist and reluctant sleuth Theo Phillips settled in the charming town of Shiloh, Georgia, he thought he'd found peace among its moss-draped oaks, friendly porches, and tight-knit community. But when an unexpected obituary from Mississippi reopens a decades-old scandal, Theo is pulled into a mystery that threatens the very heart of Shiloh. As the town readies for the beloved Lightning Bug Festival and the Miss Shiloh pageant, the arrival of an armored limousine and two dangerous strangers stirs unease. Whispers of a founding family's buried secrets, a mayor's political ambitions, and outsiders with hidden motives put everyone on edge. With his wife Liddy by his side, Theo must navigate small-town gossip, tangled loyalties, and long-buried grudges. As danger creeps closer, the truth could either heal old wounds-or shatter Shiloh forever. Perfect for fans of Southern fiction, small-town mysteries, and character-driven suspense, Purgatory: A Progeny's Quest blends rich storytelling, heartfelt community bonds, and page-turning intrigue. In Shiloh, where Southern charm meets deadly secrets, nothing stays buried for long. "Amid the patchwork of furrowed cotton and peanut fields...down home country fun at its finest....But when one of Shiloh's citizens purchases an armored limo with a checkered history at a Sheriff's used-car auction, the town's tranquility is shattered by the accumulation of dead bodies and broken hearts. Here's a story that will keep you reading to the wee hours." -Jedwin Smith, Author of I AM ISRAEL, Our Brother's Keeper, and Fatal Treasure
Autorenporträt
T. M. Brown, Mike to friends and family, embraces his Georgia heritage, thanks to the paternal branches of his family tree. Mike recalls his childhood when on many warm Sunday afternoons his father drove the family beyond Stone Mountain to his Great-Uncle's farm. Though the dust-filled, red clay back roads beyond Snellville, GA have long become paved thoroughfares for decades, Mike fondly recalls getting bitten by barbwire pasture fences, sipping cool well-water from a ladle, and getting scrubbed in a washtub near the front stoop of Uncle Kerry's and Aunt Monk's old farmhouse.Retired since 2014 from the 9-to-5 life, Mike and his wife Connie reside below Atlanta near Newnan, Georgia. Creating his fictional rural town of Shiloh and its cast of memorable characters has conjured up many near-forgotten memories, and thanks to recollections of his Pop and Poppa, the truth they espoused to Mike as a young man resonates in his stories - "The testament of a man lies not in the magnitude of possessions and property left to his heirs, but the reach of his legacy long after his death."Sanctuary, the first of the Shiloh stories, launched April 2017, and became Sanctuary, A Legacy of Memories (January 2018), the first in the Shiloh Mystery Series. Testament, An Unexpected Return followed in April 2018. Purgatory, A Progeny's Quest, March 2022, concludes the Shiloh Mystery Series. Although, Mike promises that Theo and Liddy Phillips will likely find their way into new stories about further adventures in the future.Mike is a member of the Atlanta Writers Club, Broadleaf Writers Association in Atlanta, Southeastern Writers Association, consultant to Carrollton Writers Guild, American Christian Fiction Writers, and founding President of Hometown Novel Writers Association in his hometown of Newnan, GA.Mike has written a brand new historical novel, The Last Laird of Sapelo, The Randolph Spalding Story and is busy querying agents and publishers in hopes to see it published in the coming months.
