In the mid to late 1960s Alison Rowell's family lived on two lighthouse islands off the coast of Queensland, on the Great Barrier Reef, as her Dad was a lighthouse keeper. The Rainbow Island books are loosely based on her memories of these times. Alison currently lives in the leafy northern suburbs of Brisbane, Queensland and spends as much time as she can with her family. Alison can also be seen on the Sunshine Coast where she loves to go swimming at the beach, walking on the white sand and collecting shells.
