To find her way home, Alison must first see through the illusions of the world. Alison Maybridge never imagined she'd wake up in the Afterlife. What first appears to be a tapestry of enchanting myths and fairy tales soon reveals a far more unsettling truth. Guided by the enigmatic goddess Persephone, Alison is drawn into a realm where Greek goddesses whisper in riddles, shadows blur the line between dream and reality, and ancient tales reflect her deepest fears and desires. Haunted by the allure of earthly life, Alison longs to return home. Yet as every illusion she has known begins to unravel, she must choose: cling to the familiar stories of the past or awaken her own divine power. Joined by Ian, a computer genius with secrets of his own, Alison's journey of self-discovery becomes a quest to break the illusions that imprison not only her, but all of humanity-before a cosmic war resets reality itself. Reality and Other Illusions is a mesmerising work of mythic fiction: a journey of magic, transformation, and spiritual awakening that dares you to look beyond the veil and question the nature of reality itself. Length: 105,000 words 316 pages
Johanne Shepherd was born in 1956 in Sydney and spent her early years in the coastal suburb of Avalon. After moving to Canberra, she completed her studies at the Australian National University and the University of Canberra. In 1981, a course on Raja Yoga meditation sparked an interest in the spiritual path, leading her to travel through India and China to explore their ancient traditions. Her fascination with Greek mythology and archetypes arose years later, after reading Goddesses in Everywoman, by Jean Shinoda Bolen. A lifelong writer, Johanne began formally studying the craft a decade ago, weaving together her interests in spirituality, mythology and storytelling. She lives in rural New South Wales, where she continues to write and reflect amidst the quiet rhythms of nature.
