Goss was a Member of Congress from 1989 until 2004, at which time he became the Director of Central Intelligence. He served as a member of the CIA's clandestine service from 1962 to 1972. Mike Hayden is a retired Air Force general and former Director of the Central Intelligence Agency and the National Security Agency. He is currently a principal at the Chertoff Group and a Distinguished Visiting Professor at George Mason University. He is the author of the upcoming Playing to the Edge: American Intelligence in the Age of Terror, a memoir of his time on the national intelligence scene. John McLaughlin capped a thirty-two-year career at CIA by serving as its Deputy Director from 2000 to 2004 and as Acting Director in the latter part of 2004. During his career he worked on nearly every part of the world, briefed four American Presidents, and frequently represented the Intelligence Community on diplomatic delegations abroad. He teaches at the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies, publishes frequent assessments of foreign affairs, and is Chairman of the CIA Officers Memorial Foundation, an organization dedicated to supporting the families of CIA officers who die in the line of duty.
