Clark Shipton, once a notorious Western Australian with a racist past, lost his daughter Kaitlin to kidnappers when she was just 12 years old. She was his only remaining family following the murder of his wife but when an unexpected friendship with an Indigenous police officer leads to the dismantling of a major human trafficking network, it sparks new hope that Kaitlin might be found. The media attention attracts two ex-soldiers who specialize in what they call "Recoverance." They've located Kaitlin in a Bosnian brothel, where she is now a heroin addict and not yet sixteen. Despite the eye-watering cost, Shipton hires them and pays a hefty deposit. The mission to bring her home is complex, but it will become even more challenging when Kaitlin refuses to leave without her two friends. Further complications arise as the WA Police launch a covert investigation into their own internal corruption that facilitated the original trafficking ring. The lives of Kaitlin, and her friends are placed at greater risk given they may be privy to evidence.
Dan Cotton spent the first fifteen years of his working life travelling the world with the Grey Funnel Line (Royal Navy). He then joined the world of commerce and pretty much carried on travelling as before. In the eighties, he started a business that eventually listed on the Stock Exchange and delisted in 1989 after the crash of 1987. He didn't make much money, but he learned the hard way, about the underbelly of high-end business operations and decided there were better ways to earn a crust.Twelve years in the IT world kept him going until he decided to do his own thing and start an art gallery with a picture fram-ing service. They are all in the past and in the event that he doesn't make squillions from his writing, he'll still be scratching away until he carks it. *Who is Dan Cotton? Sometimes, even he's not sure. He's one of those folks who, no matter where they are in the world, will always be mistaken for someone else.*Having written nothing more than business proposals and letters, he started on his first manuscript and soon realised he badly needed help. That's when he joined the Katharine Susannah Prichard Writing Centre (WA) and, with encouragement and critique from KSP's Thursday Night Group, he has been able to complete three trilogies comprising, "Triptych", "Toxic Trade" and "Terrorist". "WTF," "Quarry" and "Bird of Prey," then "Full Circle," "End Game," and "Spore". "Recoverance Inc" is the second novel of a fourth trilogy which includes "Traffic" and "Plausible Deniability".He has also written a number of short stories, poems, and drabbles which are published in various anthologies. In addition, he has completed another full-length work, "The Second Meridian," in the speculative fiction genre.
