In this work a conventional system and hybrid system is model simulated in MATLAB. The system fault current behavior is studied for over current protection using over current relay. The different types of symmetrical and unsymmetrical faults are created to check the magnitude of different fault current. Two systems are analyzed using MATLAB: a conventional system and a hybrid system. Conduct simulations using MATLAB to analyze both a conventional power system and a hybrid power system. To introduce various types of faults, both symmetrical and unsymmetrical, to assess the magnitude of fault currents. It clear from the hardware and simulation results that for all types of faults the magnitude of fault current is more in hybrid system. The use of this model, hardware is effectively used to get the knowledge of fault current which is helpful to power system engineers from design of protection system. This study will help the system operator to set the relay according to conventional as well as hybrid mode of power flow.
