Len Tomaka, a native of Chicago, completed a five-year Chicago Local Union #597 Pipe Fitter apprenticeship while at Washburne Trade School. He has worked at every level in the field: apprentice, pipe fitter, foreman, job site superintendent, and estimator and project manager for mechanical contractors in the heavy industrial and commercial industries. He finished his career with his consultancy to mechanical contractors. He spent five years in the United States Marine Corps Reserve and holds three U.S. patents. He is also the author of Aphorisms, Adages, and Advice for the Children I Never Had.
