The Dutch edition of this book was published in 2019, the year in which all over our country preparations were made for the 75th commemoration and celebration of the Liberation at the end of the Second World War. We were all anxious to once again hear the stories about the war, the Occupation and the Liberation, coming from the dwindled number of liberators and liberated. Unfortunately, the worldwide coronavirus pandemic forced us to cancel almost all the Liberation events in 2020. However, in the Netherlands, many organizations and private persons have been working for years to record the stories of the wartime generation in pictures and through the spoken and written word for posterity. "Lest we forget!" "The book fits in perfectly, and with its mixture of fact and fiction and surprising unravelling, it is worth reading." - G.J. (Fred) de Graaf LL.M., former mayor of ApeldoornHinweis: Dieser Artikel kann nur an eine deutsche Lieferadresse ausgeliefert werden.
Richard Oostwal was born in 1933 in Amsterdam. From 1967, he has lived in Apeldoorn, and is high school educated. He has made many travels; besides Europe he has also travelled in Asia and the USA, and has visited Canada several times. His hobbies are filming, photographing, drawing, writing and working on his computer. He wrote columns in a local newspaper for years, and helped to find host families for a yearly reception of Canadian vets. The English version of this story is signed Trudy Butcher. Trudy was born in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada, in 1947. After moving to Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, at a very young age, she attended elementary school and high school and received her teaching certificate from the University of Saskatchewan. She lives in Saskatoon with her daughter and two dogs. She retired in 2012 after a long career in various positions in education. She continues to work with children as a tutor. She has two sons and their wives, and six grandchildren. Her favourite pastimes are reading murder-mystery novels, gardening, and spending time with her grandkids. She visited Apeldoorn for the first time in 2003, accompanying a veteran from the Royal Regina Rifles, Fred Kidd, who was 94 at that time. It was then that she met Richard Oostwal and heard some of his memories of wartime. She returned in 2005, again with Fred Kidd, to attend the 60th anniversary of the liberation. What a party!
