The writer on its own initiative undertook the Review on the Legal and Policy Framework governing Consumer Protection pursuant to section 9(1) of the Law Reform Commission Act, Cap. 171. With the rapid evolution of technology, consumers are finding new ways to interact with products. The new technologies have brought fundamental changes in goods and services offered in the market. Due to the changes, the people of Tanzania like others in the world, are forced to keep on track in order to cope with the new changes. Nevertheless, there is no single comprehensive legislation for consumer protection in Tanzania which consolidates all principles on consumer protection. It is for this reason that the writer decided to undertake the review of the laws related to consumer protection and propose a comprehensive and simplified consumer protection legal framework. The new legislation would take into account interest of consumers, the Government and the business community.
