Alfred John Church (1829-1912) was an esteemed English classical scholar and writer, renowned for his contribution to the dissemination of classical literature through English translations. After a period of teaching at various schools, including Merchant Taylors' and President of The Royal Society of Literature, he became professor of Latin at University College, London.
