This LMXB has been observed by Ariel 5, Einstein Observatory, HEAO 1, INTEGRAL, OSO 7, ROSAT, SAS-2, and Uhuru. It was subsequently observed before August 27, 1973, at 3U 1744-26, and before January 12, 1974, at 4U 1744-26. Although designated as the first X-ray source to be detected and confirmed in the constellation Sagittarius, it was not. Sagittarius XR-1 was detected earlier on June 16, 1964.
