A forester, the only female on an all-male crew. Earlier still, a model. A loping Amazon live on radio at 16 boldly challenging broadcasters on their skewed, limiting, sexist views of women. Addicted to science, to ways of thinking that break the mold. An adventuress, she recounts the enduring hallucinations from being too long on watch in a small sailboat in Force 11 seas. A perfect storm. Chasing black bears over morning coffee, polar dips in ice-rimmed lakes, a junior member of the Alpine Club at 11 years of age. A love, Sandy, 25 years and counting.
