"Secret Passageways - In the Land of the Lost and Never Found" is a non-stop magical adventure novella for readers ages 9 and up, but it has levels of meaning that adults will find intriguing as well. It follows the journey of two brothers who find themselves trapped in an alternate world where they face one death defying danger after another using only their wits to survive as they try to find their way back home. The lessons it imparts to young readers about family, survival and love are timeless. The story is based on an imagination game that the author, Rick Ench and his brother played as children. The beautiful illustrations for the book were created by renowned artist and Rick's brother, Cory Ench.
Rick Ench is a storyteller. In earlier times, he would have been the one telling stories to amaze and enlighten his tribe around the fire on a cold autumn evening. He's a filmmaker with a MFA in Film Production from NYU, he's a singer/songwriter, and he directs the design and construction of community improvement projects for Tribal Nations. Most importantly, however, he's a writer. Secret Passageways, In the Land of the Lost and Never Found is Rick's second book of fiction. It's a thrilling novella written for kids 9 and older, but it has a depth of meaning that adults will also find intriguing. His first fictional book "Nula" was published in December 2023 and was selected for recognition by the Tucson Festival of Books, the second largest annual book festival in the US, with a special book signing event in March of 2025. Rick was also asked by the festival to be on a panel providing advice to new writers. His first primarily non-fiction book, North American Indian Music, was published by Scholastic.
