Born on August 27, 1947, in Clarksdale, Mississippi, Dr. Jones began her academic journey with a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from Coe College in 1969. Her career spans decades of service-from overseeing teenage girls at the Convent of the Good Shepherd to serving twenty years in the U.S. Army, where she specialized in military intelligence and Russian language instruction. After retiring from the military in 1996, Dr. Jones pursued advanced studies in Slavic languages and literature, earning both her M.A. and Ph.D. from the University of Texas at Austin.
