Autorenporträt
Ab¿ Müammad ¿Abd al-Malik ibn Hish¿m (¿ 218 AH/833-834 CE) was a prominent 9th-century grammarian, historian and editor whose work remains foundational to the early Islamic tradition of s¿rah (the biography of the Prophet). Although the original manuscript of his predecessor Müammad ibn Is¿¿q has not survived, Ibn Hish¿m's edited recension of the text preserved, refined and filtered it-omitting certain anecdotes, clarifying difficult Arabic, and annotating genealogy and place¿names-thus making his version the principal conduit through which the Prophet's life has been transmitted in classical scholarship. His work, "Al-S¿rah al-Nabawiyyah", remains one of the most trusted sources on the Prophet's mission, the early Muslim community, and the myriad social, tribal and historical contexts that shaped it.
