La profesora Leong Wai Yie se doctoró en Ingeniería Eléctrica por la Universidad de Queensland (UQ), Australia. Wai Yie es actualmente Presidenta de la Sección de Mujeres Ingenieras de Malasia y Presidenta de Women Engineers-AFEO(WEAFEO). Está especializada en procesamiento de señales médicas y telecomunicaciones, y ha recibido el Premio de Investigación Richard Jago.
