British novelist John Conroy Hutcheson (1840-1997), who wrote books and short tales about life at sea, was a maritime expert. Hutcheson was born in the Channel Islands in Jersey in 1840, and he passed away on Hampshire's Portsea Island in late 1896 or early 1897.
