"Shutting a door is loving yourself." When Sofia's grandmother, Lita, is diagnosed with cancer, everything changes-but not in the way she expects. Instead of fear and sadness, Lita teaches Sofia about strength through mindset and perspective, kindness, and the power of healthy choices. Through bubble baths, bedtime stories, and big lessons about self-love and resilience, Sofia learns how small changes-like eating the rainbow, getting enough sleep, and being kind to others-can help shut "cancer doors". The story has tremendous heart and educational power. It gently guides readers through tough topics like cancer and health in a developmentally sensitive way. Based on a true story, Sofia's emotional journey is believable, inspiring, and likely to resonate with young readers who have loved ones going through health challenges-or who are simply trying to understand their own growing world. It makes cancer, a tough topic accessible, empowering, and even hopeful for young readers.
