Richard Torrans was born in Oakville, Ontario, Canada in 1957. After graduating Teacher's College in 1981, he took up his first international teaching post in Nigeria, West Africa. His teaching career took him on to Northern and Arctic Canada, the Middle East and Persia, then finally to Ethiopia, East Africa. "I have always written poetry. I began writing as a teenager in order to chronicle the rural life I was growing up in. I wrote to soothe me through tumultuous times in the '70s and '80s. I wrote to paint a picture of my experiences in other cultures at home and abroad. I continue to write to reflect on nature and humanity, and my place in it." Richard spends his writing time in Ethiopia and Canada with his wife of forty years, his daughter and son-in-law and three grandchildren. This is his first published work.
