He became the first President of the Royal Academy of Arts and used his position to elevate the status of art and artists in society. While Reynolds' artistic contributions are well-known, his writings, particularly 'Sir Joshua Reynolds' Discourses,' also had a significant impact. The collection of lectures, delivered to the Royal Academy between 1769 and 1790, is a treasure trove of art theory and criticism.
