Keyla Alencar ha conseguito il dottorato di ricerca in Geografia presso l'Università Federale di Pernambuco (Brasile). È anche accademica e ricercatrice presso l'Universidad Tecnológica Metropolitana (Cile). Lavora nel campo della Geografia fisica, occupandosi di questioni legate ai disastri naturali, al rischio e alla vulnerabilità, alla geoelaborazione e alla pianificazione e gestione ambientale.
