This book is the result of my undergraduate research and addresses the Minha Casa, Minha Vida (My House, My Life) programme in the municipality of Paulista, Paraíba. It begins with a brief introduction to the evolution of economic thought, particularly in the last century, from classical economic liberalism to the arrival of globalisation, implemented by neoliberal policies that currently exert extreme influence on the political and economic landscape. In short, it analyses the role of the state from laissez faire to neoliberalism. This is followed by a brief retrospective of federal government action in the housing sector. Finally, there is an analysis of the PMCMV in the municipality of Paulista, Paraíba. The aim was to show the socioeconomic importance of this programme for the municipality under study.
