This book is the result of a video-photographic intervention with residents of São Luiz do Paraitinga, São Paulo, Brazil. Spaces of Memory is the same title as the documentary I made with a group of friends between 2012 and 2015 (37 minutes long). The film is a collaborative work, in which some residents of that city were invited to interact with the project by producing hundreds of photos, with the theme of their memories of the great local flood that occurred in January 2010. Text and film complement each other. The video can be viewed on Vimeo (https://vimeo.com/165775393). Part book, part film, in a descriptive phenomenology, here I focus on presenting the process of image creation as the main method for reconstructing memories. More than that, for a reflection on the spaces of memory, a term I have adopted to designate some aspects and dimensions in which images occur. Taking social psychology as a starting point, I imagine that an aesthetic experience like this can be very enriching as a method of creation and research in a wide variety of disciplines and areas of knowledge.
