The work provides an understanding of the climatic behavior of the northern region of Brazil, as it analyzes 48 conventional surface climatological stations, demonstrating that the distribution of rainfall in the region has a temporal seasonality and an irregularity in its spatial distribution governed by the seasonality of the Intertropical Convergence Zone - ITCZ. The two droughts of 1952 and 1988 in the municipality of Porto Velho were caused by the movement of the dynamics of the atmosphere, since the rainfall in 1952 was 1626 mm with a negative deviation of 661 mm, and in 1988 it was 1677 mm with a negative deviation of 610 in relation to the climatological normal of the 59 years of data analyzed. The first was considered a normal year in relation to the El Niño/La Niña oceanic-atmospheric phenomenon, while the second was considered a weak La Niña, showing that deforestation is not yet a factor that has a marked influence on the decrease or increase in rainfall in the municipality. This book is aimed at students studying Geography, Agronomy, Biological Sciences, Environmental Engineering and professionals working with water resource management.
