In order to organize issues related to the quality of these packages, ABNT published the NBR ISO/IEC 12119 standard, which defines their quality requirements. Several authors and studies point out that only a small number of Brazilian companies adequately use the NBR ISO/IEC 12119 standard in the evaluation of these packages. This dissertation proposes a methodology for evaluating software packages based on NBR. To validate it, an evaluation of the Lotus Notes and MS-Exchange software packages is developed. This dissertation presents the results of the aforementioned evaluation.
