Software Quality Assurance is one of the challenges that information technology companies face in the market. This Quality Assurance, in a broad sense, involves the evaluation of methods, processes, software packages, and tools used in the software life cycle development process. In order to organize issues related to the quality of these packages, ABNT published the NBR ISO/IEC 12119 standard, which defines their quality requirements. Several authors and studies point out that only a small number of Brazilian companies adequately use the NBR ISO/IEC 12119 standard in the evaluation of these packages. This dissertation proposes a methodology for evaluating software packages based on NBR. To validate it, an evaluation of the Lotus Notes and MS-Exchange software packages is developed. This dissertation presents the results of the aforementioned evaluation.
