George MacDonald (1824 - 1905) was a Scottish author, poet, and Christian pastor. One of the first writers to create fantasy for adults, he also published three volumes of sermons, entitled Unspoken Sermons. His best known works are Phantastes, "The Golden Key," and At the Back of the North Wind. MacDonald said, "I write, not for children, but for the child-like, whether they be of five, or fifty, or seventy-five."
