Progressive bone loss around the platform of dental implants is a challenge to overcome in the clinic, as it interferes with the maintenance and control of peri-implant tissues and can affect aesthetics. This book is the result of work carried out under the supervision of Prof Dr Dalva Cruz Laganá at the Photoelasticity Laboratory in the Prosthodontics Department of the University of São Paulo School of Dentistry, in collaboration with Prof Dr Bruno Costa. The authors evaluate the concentration of stresses around different dental implants, varying the macrogeometry, prosthetic connection and depth of insertion of the prosthetic platform, under axial or oblique loading. The text is segmented into sub-themes to make it easier to understand the different aspects involving stresses in dental implants. According to the limitations of this study, it can be concluded that macrogeometry, platform insertion depth and type of occlusal loading influence the stress distribution behaviour around implants. Regarding the prosthetic connection, the results showed similar fringe patterns regardless of the type of connection. Happy reading!
