Sunlight through the Trees and Other Poems shares thoughts and reflections on a variety of topics, ranging from nature's grandeur and beauty to our need for God's love. Descriptive language, imagery, and lyrical cadences inspire readers to be mindful of blessings both large and small. The poems in this book were written over the course of thirty-five years and draw from hardship as well as joyful experiences. Many were penned in the quiet of the early morning as an observation of some aspect of creation, as praise to God for his goodness, or in anticipation of the life awaiting us in heaven. A paragraph that expounds on meaning and reveals the source of inspiration precedes each poem. It is the author's prayer that this book will guide readers to seek deep and meaningful connections with God and nature.
Kristi Bishop discovered her love of blending rhythm and rhyme at an early age, drafting her first poems in grade school. She formed a close bond with nature and was often found happily playing in the woods, streams, or fields where she grew up or sitting contentedly under an umbrella in the rain. From age 7, Kristi began feeling very close to her Creator God, especially when outdoors. > Kristi has taught children with hearing and language impairments, worked as an LPN, and served in senior living communities as caregiver and activities director for dementia care. She is married to her high school sweetheart, and for 36 years they have maintained their traditions of daily kindness and weekly date nights. She still enjoys nature and also delights in flower gardening, cooking, and decorating her home with holiday and seasonal décor while staying entertained and snuggled by her two cats, Susannah and Sally. Kristi's favorite activity is writing poetry, and her greatest joy is knowing that someone has been inspired by her poems. She is the author of The Bird That Sang in the Storm and Other Poems (2019).
