Swallows Also Fall is a deeply personal and emotionally resonant exploration of memory, history, and loss. Spanning the years 1918 to 1951, the book traces the author's journey to reconstruct the lives of her grandparents and their foster son, Marcel-lí Massana-a member of the anti-Franco resistance who later sought asylum in Paris. Inspired by Josep Clara's biography of Massana, the narrative took a new direction-focusing on forgotten family stories and the silent suffering of Catalonia under Franco's regime. Told through the voice of Rosana, an illiterate woman symbolizing strength and vulnerability, the book weaves together themes of war, gender roles, cultural erasure, and resilience. Neither pure fiction nor formal history, Swallows Also Fall is an unfinished but powerful search for truth-an attempt to give voice to the silenced and glimpse into a painful chapter of Spanish history that continues to echo today.
