Hydrazides are important starting materials for a wide range of derivatives, utilizable as potential pharmaceutical products for human use. Over 70% of recently reported syntheses of hydrazide derivatives were evaluated for antimicrobial and or antifungal activity in preclinical studies. Hydrazides are important starting materials for a wide range of derivatives, utilizable as potential pharmaceutical products for human use. Over 70% of recently reported syntheses of hydrazide derivatives were evaluated for antimicrobial and or antifungal activity in preclinical studies. The synthesis, biological activities, and applications of hydrazone and hydrazide derivatives were reported by many research groups. Antibacterial agents have saved many lives and helped the growth of modern medicine over the past half century. The emergence of drug resistance jeopardizes is the effectiveness of these life-saving treatments. The search for new antibacterial drugs is a continuous process because of the increasing resistance of microbial pathogens. It is enviable to find drugs with more potency with a wide activity spectrum. The treatment of bacterial infectious diseases is a never-ending challenge because of the increasing number of multidrug microbial pathogens. In recent years, the design of new compounds, having new structures and new targets of action, has become one of the most important areas in antibacterial research.
