This study is part of the research project "Undergraduate Nursing Education in Pregnancy, Childbirth, and Birth for Public School Students from the 1950s to the 1980s." Here, we will present the time frame from the 1950s to the 1980s in relation to nursing education in newborn care. The researchers' desire to learn more about the teaching of neonatal care arose from their experience as nurses in an obstetric center and the realization that, in everyday care, at the moment of birth, care practices are strongly guided by the biomedical model, focused on routines and interventions. It is observed that in this area of care, there is often indiscriminate use of technology, without considering the comprehensiveness and individuality of care.
