There's much more to be gained than just an animal, on a hunt. Do you know how to find it? With a lifetime of bowhunting in his back pocket, author Hollis Crocker has a thing or two to say about what he's picked up along the way. Hint: it's not just getting a trophy animal (though he has those, too). Instead, it's the multitude of memories he's made in the hunts he's been a part of. From local, small groups to expeditions in western states and even some close calls in Alaska, Hollis has experienced more in his hunts than he ever imagined: most of those wonderful memories centering around the people and the places that made the hunts worthwhile. In his memoir, Hollis describes a handful of the dozens of hunts he's been part of, focusing on some moments that prove he can have a great hunt without taking an animal down. As Hollis says, "There is a lot more to be gained from hunting besides the animal. Enjoy the adventure-and if you are successful, just count that as a bonus." Perfect for other hunting enthusiasts and outdoorsmen, The Adventures of a Bow Hunter is a riveting read that makes the reader think about the most important things in life, and how to leverage hobbies to build communities, memories, and connections rather than focusing only on the prize to be won.
Hollis Crocker, a North Georgia native, has always gravitated towards challenging endeavors, finding greater rewards in them. A military veteran and retired AT&T employee, he has explored art, sculpture, and car restoration. Hollis designed and built his home and a log cabin in the mountains. Passionate about archery, he has exclusively hunted with a bow, cherishing the adventures and discovery of new places. He started with a bow and never took up gun hunting. He has been very fortunate to have Bowhunted out west and Alaska for over 35 years. His life motto reflects his belief in the value of effort and perseverance: "If you have tried something and failed, you are vastly better off than if you had tried nothing and succeeded."
