The evaluation of semen quality by laboratory techniques allows optimizing the reproductive performance of sires in artificial insemination centers. The book reviews the use of specialized parameters and techniques to verify the suitability of an ejaculate through macroscopic and microscopic assessments of boar semen or spermiogram. By analyzing different sources of information, it is concluded that macroscopic characteristics of semen, such as color, odor, appearance, pH and volume, as well as microscopic parameters, such as vitality, sperm concentration, motility, morphology, acrosome integrity and DNA fragmentation are parameters that should be considered to determine the suitability of an ejaculate prior to its artificial insemination process.
