A literary fantasy about the stories that shape us -- and what happens when we outgrow them. Hector Ramirez is a failed writer who gets the opportunity of a lifetime: to help reboot the fantasy book series that defined his childhood. But when he discovers the original author has mysteriously vanished into his fictional world, Hector is pulled into a realm where stories are alive and willing to kill to stay in control. He’s not alone. Along for the journey is Al, Hector’s child, seeking their place in both the real world and the story that now threatens to consume them. Alethea, once the series’ bright young mage heroine, now fights alongside them as a battle-worn warrior, questioning whether she still belongs to the story she was created to serve. As the fictional world unravels, each must confront a painful truth: what if the author no longer deserves to control the story they created – and what happens to those who still believe in it? From acclaimed writer Frank J. Barbiere (Five Ghosts, Violent Love) and celebrated watercolor artist Morgan Beem (Swamp Thing: Twin Branches, You Belong Here) comes a bold new fantasy for fans of The Unwritten, Saga, and Sandman, a mythic, character-driven exploration of legacy, identity, and reclaiming the stories that once saved us.
