**AWARD WINNER!! READER'S FAVORITE 2025 LITERARY CONTEST - FICTION - THRILLER- LEGAL GENRE** Murder.. Religion.. Sexual Abuse.. Politics.. Power.. This book has it all!! In 1960, as John F. Kennedy fights to become America's first Catholic president, the Church scrambles to cover up a dark secret-the rampant sexual abuse of altar boys. Then, a gruesome discovery shatters the silence. Two young hunters stumble upon the mutilated, frozen corpse of Horace Badger, the dean of men at Reliance College. His face is partially eaten away, his body slashed as if by a butcher's knife. What secrets were supposed to die with him? Charged with the brutal murder is Stosh Klewzewski, the violent leader of the Catholic White Knights. His defense falls to Paul Flaherty, Pennsylvania's most formidable criminal attorney and the son of the state's Chief Justice. Everyone assumes Flaherty is destined for political greatness-everyone except Flaherty himself. But this trial is bigger than one man's fate. As shocking truths about the Church's cover-up surface, powerful forces move to protect their own-because if Flaherty loses, the scandal could derail Kennedy's election and shake the Catholic Church to its core. Is Klewzewski truly guilty, or is he just a pawn in a much larger game? And in the battle for justice, will the truth be buried along with the dead? The Badger Game is a gripping thriller that will keep you hooked from the first page to the last. Multiple 5 star reviews on Reader's Favorite! Hi, I'm Norman Shabel, a Brooklyn-born, successful New Jersey class-action attorney turned author. I've been driven to write ever since I can remember and by the time I was in my twenties I had already written several novels that ended up stuffed in drawers as I launched my legal career, married and had a family. To date I have written 8 novels and 7 plays, some written in long-hand, hunched over my desk while waiting for a jury verdict to come in and all dealing with some sort of crime, be it murder, corporate greed, politics, war, the Holocaust, or relatable family dynamics. They are fast-paced reads about the dark side of law enforcement and the judiciary and the ups and downs of the legal system. Courts are inherently dramatic places, and I saw that connection between law and storytelling before I even realized it. Lawyers need to be good storytellers to engage juries in the "plot" of a case. You need to hold the interest of a jury if you're going to win them over, much like the plot of a novel or the arc of a play. Writing gives my life meaning, I'm a very fortunate man." I have been married to my wife, Arleen for over 60 years. Together we have lived our dream of traveling the world and now reside much of the year in sunny South Florida. If you would like to learn more about my writing, both novels and plays, you can find me at www.NormanShabel.net.
