The Best Birthday Gift Ever is a heartwarming tale perfect for young readers aged 5-7, written by Empowerteen tweens aged 11-13! Overseen by a holistic mental health physician, Dr. Paula Pilcher, this delightful story helps children develop social-emotional skills, navigate relationships, and resolve conflicts with care. Ideal for teachers and group reading, and perfect for any SEL curriculum, it fosters important life lessons that teens and tweens learn about in the Empowerteen program. This book was brainstormed and written by a group of thirteen girls, ages 11-13 years old, at the 2017 Empowerteen Tween Girls Advanced Summer Retreat in Portland, Oregon. Empowerteen is a program working to give teens tools to navigate through life for success, health and happiness by balancing the four pillars of holistic wellness: mental, physical, emotional, and social. These tweens spent the retreat week learning empathy and communication skills, especially regarding healthy relationships, boundaries, and conflict resolution. They had lots of fun and put in hard work to come up with the characters and story of this book. A bit of each of their own story is in this book, too.
