Frederic Arnold Kummer Sr. was an American author, playwright, and screenwriter known for his contributions to early 20th-century literature and entertainment. He was born on August 5, 1873, in Catonsville, Maryland, to Mary Morris Kummer and Arnold Kummer. Kummer was a versatile writer, penning both novels and plays, often under the pseudonym Arnold Fredericks. Several of his works were adapted into films, showcasing his influence on both literature and Hollywood. His work ranged from detective stories to comedies, and his ability to craft engaging narratives made him a popular figure in his time. He was married to Marion J. McLean from 1907 until his death in 1943, with whom he had two children, Marjorie and Frederica. Kummer s artistic impact is evident in various aspects of popular culture, and a caricature of him hangs in Sardi s restaurant, a testament to his recognition in New York s theatrical world. Kummer passed away on November 22, 1943, in Baltimore, Maryland, at the age of 70.
