ABOUT THE AUTHOR: Robert Stanek is the highly-acclaimed author of more than fifty books for young people and adults. He was born in Burlington Wisconsin and is the second youngest of five children. As a former military man, his distinguished accomplishments during the Gulf War earned him nine medals, including the USA's highest flying honor, the Distinguished Flying Cross. Robert has won many awards from his colleagues and the publishing industry. Currently, he resides in the Pacific Northwest with his wife and children.
Robert Stanek grew up in a small town where the lines between friendship, responsibility, and the longing for something more were often blurred. Much like Bob in Almost California, Stanek spent his high school years juggling personal struggles, tight-knit friendships, and a desire to break free from the confines of small-town life. The themes of emotional weight, family responsibility, and the unspoken bonds between friends resonate deeply with him.During his own teenage years, Stanek held an unlikely high school job that shaped his understanding of hard work and personal growth-lessons that would later inspire the characters and stories he writes today. His ability to capture the complexities of coming of age stems from those early experiences and his love of exploring the pivotal moments that shape who we become. When he's not writing, Stanek enjoys immersing himself in the music and culture of the 1980s, the era that influenced Almost California. He believes that even when we're looking for an escape, the things we want to leave behind often hold the key to understanding who we truly are.Stanek lives with his family in Washington state in the USA, where he is at work on his next novel.Readers can connect with Robert Stanek on his website robert-stanek.com, where they can explore more of his works, learn about upcoming releases, and delve into his life and history.
