Enter the epic saga of the Calhoun family. Set in the post Civil War era, The Calhouns employs a colorful cast of characters to tell a heart-pounding and heart-wrenching story of adventure, brotherhood, struggle, and patriotism. In the heart of the broken South, a family struggles to survive. Embittered in conflict, some choose to leave their home for the opportunity to create a completely new life in the expanding frontier. WIth a nation on the mend after the Civil War and the prospect of progress on the horizon with new land, moving West promises an existence away from the hurt of home. However, traveling across the country to the untamed West poses a bigger challenge than they invisioned; settling the new frontier is a massive, dangerous job. What follows is an epic tale of overcoming simmering resentments, remembering the ugly scars of slavery, and forging a country against incredible odds. Author William S. Blinn uses his deep well of knowledge and passion for post-Civil War history and westward expansion to inform points of this evocative historical novel. He even includes real characters from the past that give the historical fiction novel an appearance of a true account. Predicated on survival, success, and the common themes of western novels, The Calhouns engages readers with every turn of the page - creating characters and a story that will stay with readers long after the last chapter. For fans of Yellowstone, Lonesome Dove, and Dances with Wolves, the action, adventure, romance, and struggle in The Calhouns will delight.
