Howard Phillips Lovecraft (20 de agosto de 1890 - 15 de marzo de 1937) fue un escritor estadounidense de novelas de ciencia ficción, fantasía y terror. Es conocido sobre todo por su creación de los Mitos de Cthulhu. Nacido en Providence, Rhode Island, Lovecraft pasó la mayor parte de su vida en Nueva Inglaterra. Permaneció activo como escritor durante 11 años, hasta su muerte por cáncer intestinal a los 46 años, prácticamente en la pobreza. El corpus literario de Lovecraft se basa en la idea del cosmicismo, que fue su filosofía personal y el tema principal de su ficción.
