"The Call of Rebekah" tells the story of the Bible's Rebekah and Isaac from Rebekah's perspective. Drawing from biblical scholarship and archaeology, and filled with historically accurate illustrations, this engaging narrative is designed to spark children's imagination about daily life in ancient Mesopotamia and consider how one girl's journey with God may inspire their own. "The Call of Rebekah" is the first in Kyrka Books' series about women and girls in the Bible. The books are designed to enable the reader to: Enter imaginatively into the story. What might the characters have been thinking or feeling? What may have happened around the events recorded in the Bible? Be curious about ancient, foreign lives. What was daily life like? What did they eat, wear, do, play with, live in, care about? Engage complex topics. People of all ages ask big questions. Our books aim to tell complex stories in an age-appropriate, relatable, and interesting way. Find yourself in the epic narrative. The Bible is one big story that points to Jesus - and as such, we are each part of the story too!
Autorenporträt
Who Am I? -Sunday school coordinator: The idea for these books were born out of my volunteer position as a curriculum/volunteer coordinator for a Sunday school class at my church. It was difficult to find quality resources telling certain stories - especially those of women and girls in the Bible. Since I couldn't find what I was looking for, I decided to write these books myself! -Mom of two littles: My first priority as a mom is for my two kids to know that Jesus loves them and for them to want to follow him all the days of their lives. One of the ways I try to share his love with them is by reading high-quality, engaging books about Bible stories and themes. Even though these stories took place "a long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away," I want them to be able to see themselves in these stories. -Word lover: I have loved words, books, and narratives for as long as I can remember. I majored in English literature in college, went on to earn a Master of Arts in publishing and writing, and am now a professional communications & social impact consultant for biotech and life sciences organizations. My current role means I frequently translate complex high science for a layperson audience - which comes in handy when writing about theology and ancient history for children! -Entrepreneur: I took a leap of faith, leaving my job as head of communications at a rare disease-focused biotech company in order to become a full-time independent consultant. Though initially scary, this decision paved the way for me to have the space to devote significant time and energy into my writing - something I've felt God call me to do for a long time.
