Schlain, EdS has spent thirty-three years in the field of special education working with students, teachers, and parents. Along the way, she encountered many situations where students were put down and discouraged throughout their school days. Students with disabilities often have unique abilities and can be considered "out-of-the box" thinkers, much to the amazement of teachers and employers. Schlain has striven to enable students with disabilities to succeed in life. She has worked to establish a ten-county center-based program for students with emotional disabilities, taught in a psychiatric hospital, worked with students with learning disabilities, and was a special education coordinator in Virginia Beach City Public Schools. Her interests include playing duplicate bridge, traveling, reading, and walking her wonderful dog, BooBerry.
