This work addresses social security protection for Mercosur workers since the Multilateral Social Security Agreement (AMSS) came into force in 2005. Our objective was to identify the criteria for access to and coverage of social security protection through the AMSS. We also sought to contribute to the critical analysis of social security protection at the regional level and the movement of workers in Mercosur, noting that, although there are a considerable number of workers moving around, a large portion still lacks protection, mainly due to the informality of the labour market. We also noted the need to consider expanded citizenship in Mercosur, which would effectively universalise access to and coverage of this type of social protection.

The author is an employee of the Federal Institute of Paraná. He holds a Master's degree in Applied Social Sciences from the State University of Ponta Grossa (UEPG). He is a specialist in Public Administration and City Management and holds a Bachelor's degree in Law from the Federal University of Pelotas (UFPel). He works in the field of Public, Administrative and Constitutional International Law.
