D. J. Butler has been a lawyer, a consultant, an editor, and a corporate trainer. His general audience works include the flintlock fantasy novels Witchy Eye, Witchy Winter, Witchy Kingdom, and Serpent Daughter, the modern fantasy novels The Cunning Man, The Jupiter Knife, and The Familiar Spirit (with Aaron Michael Ritchey), the science fiction novels In the Palace of Shadow and Joy and Among the Gray Lords, the science fiction short story collection Between Princesses and Other Jobs, and the time travel novels Time Trials and Ice Trials (with M.A. Rothman), all from Baen Books. His young adult mystery novel, The Wilding Probate, was released through Immortal Works. He won a Whitney Award and AML Award for Witchy Winter and a Dragon Award for Witchy Kingdom.
