Joseph M. Beilein Jr. is assistant professor of history at Penn State University, Erie. He is the author of Bushwhackers: Guerrilla Warfare, Manhood, and the Household in Civil War Missouri. Matthew C. Hulbert teaches American history at Texas A&M University - Kingsville.
