The Cleansing is a story about three retired journalists who learn of their friend's untimely and unlikely death. They may be older now, but being older doesn't mean that they decided to go home to the comforts of their easy chairs and televisions. Instead of only saying nice things at their friend's funeral, these three retired journalists come out of retirement, and collectively they reinvest their hard-earned journalistic savvy and credibility into solving their friend's unfortunate death. During their investigation, they run headlong into corrupt, intimidating thugs who stop at nothing to suppress the truth of what their friend had uncovered. In today's journalistic jungle, media outlets reporting the news use techniques we as readers and viewers are expected to believe. Searching deeper into what is initially painted as a version of a less than eye-catching news story, Max's friends discover an undertow driving the story. Typically, these stories start as a small grain of truth, but may then be pushed to its outer limits of acceptability by the media. Eventually, that undertow provides credibility to what otherwise would become a purposeful lie. As they set out to learn the truth, their initial motivation was to help Max's widow. As they searched deeper into the narrative, they run headlong into these devious characters who try to derail the investigation. Undeterred and undiscouraged, by harsh and even cruel attempts to silence them, they recommit their hard-earned journalistic savvy to get at the truth, to publish the story, and to bring justice for Max and his family.
