Amongst The Dead Sea Scrolls discovered in Qumran was an ancient casket. Realising its' significance it was stolen by an observer with the archaeological team and taken to The Vatican, where it was hidden for years in their archives. The secret was discovered by a visiting American Cardinal who eventually uncovered its' hiding place and taken to America, where, with the assistance of a young scientist, its' potential could be untapped and used to influence the transfer of Christian Authority to the USA as the conspirators believed The Vatican's influence was waning in the corrupt and scandal ridden intrigues in Rome. The scheme was discovered by an American cryptologist, following the death of his journalist fiancee alongside her colleague who was investigating it. As a communications and data security expert, he was hired by Governments and other organisations to advise them on the increasing role of cybersecurity, One of these was The Vatican itself, and with his expertise he was able to dig out the identity of the young prelate who had leaked it to the American journalist.. The cryptologist became embroiled in the plot in Rome, and then in America, subsequently ending up in the remote ranch in Nevada, where the the final episode was to take place. Others, though, both within the Roman Catholic Church and other faiths, realised the danger of the scheme, and set out to stop it.
David spent his formative years as a Subaltern on the Hohne Artillery ranges in Germany and the back streets of the Bogside. He had his first brush with computers on FACE in the back of a Land Rover, entering the profession on leaving the army, and skilfully avoiding stepping on any passing bandwagon. At the end of the millennium, he was diagnosed with cancer and bought a derelict barn, simultaneously. His remission period was spent labouring whilst his wife, Jan, adeptly managed the rebuild, subsequently running it for 20 years as a B&B. As a freelancer he now writes and edits a computer magazine for the construction industry, covering subjects like AI, augmented reality in the industrial Metaverse, drone technology, and the industry's challenges with climate change, sustainability and Net Zero carbon processes.
