Amelia B. Edwards (1831-1892) was an English novelist, journalist, and pioneering Egyptologist. Renowned for her gothic f iction and travel writing, she gained fame with novels like Barbara's History and Lord Brackenbury. Her 1877 travelogue, A Thousand Miles up the Nile, detailed her exploration of Egypt and sparked her lifelong passion for archaeology. Co-founding the Egypt Exploration Fund (now the Egypt Exploration Society), Edwards championed the preservation of ancient monuments and promoted Egyptology as a scientific discipline. Her work left an indelible mark on literature and the study of ancient Egypt.
